Landing pages: how to attract better qualified leads

A landing page for a service business should explain who you help, what you offer and what happens next. When reviewing a page, I connect form submissions with enquiry quality and actual conversations. More button clicks do not necessarily mean more potential clients.

Continue the promise made in the ad

If the ad offers an online store audit, the first screen should describe that audit. Explain what you review, who it is for and what the person receives. A generic headline such as Digital solutions for your success leaves visitors to connect the ad with the service themselves. That break in the message is one of the first things I check.

As an illustrative example, replace a vague Learn more action with Send your store address and describe the problem. Explain that you agree the scope and price after reviewing the enquiry. Do not promise a detailed free audit unless you actually provide one. A clear expectation is more useful than a broad promise.

Show what the engagement actually includes

Before the form, explain the sequence: discuss the goal, review the current setup, propose priorities and implement the agreed work. Visitors should understand the difference between advice, an audit and development. If pricing depends on scope, explain what you need to estimate it rather than inventing a universal price.

Evidence can be a public analysis, a walkthrough of your process or an approved case study. State whether an example describes a proposal or an implemented change. Publish client outcomes only when the figures are verifiable and publication is approved. Otherwise, show how you approach the problem.

Shorten the form without losing useful context

Ask for what the next step requires: contact details, a website address where relevant and a short description of the goal. Add questions when they help assess fit, such as the service needed or project scope. A shorter form may increase submissions, so also check how many enquiries actually match the offer.

On a phone, complete the entire journey, open the keyboard and send a controlled test. Check readability, validation errors, the success response and actual receipt. Fixed navigation should not cover a heading or button. Speed and a clear form improve usability, but cannot resolve an unclear offer on their own.

Measure the journey from visit to conversation

Separate contact clicks, accepted submissions, qualified enquiries and agreed work. Define qualification in advance: the requested service fits your offer, the goal is clear enough and there is an actionable next step. GA4 can describe website actions; an enquiry log or CRM provides the context of the later conversation.

Change one substantial element at a time: the headline, service explanation or required fields. Record your expectation and compare similar traffic sources. A handful of enquiries does not prove a lasting conversion increase. With limited data, reviewing individual enquiries and conversations often provides a more useful next action.

Checklist

  • The ad and first screen describe the same offer.
  • Scope and next steps are clear.
  • The form has been tested on a phone, including failure and success.
  • Qualified enquiries are distinguished from clicks and submissions.

Does every campaign need its own landing page?

Not necessarily. A separate page helps when the offer, audience or desired action requires a different explanation. If an existing page already matches visitor intent, review that page and its measurement before building another.

Would you like your system reviewed?

Send your website address and a short description of the problem. We will agree the scope of a campaign, analytics or sales journey review.
